It’s that time of year when facility managers notice some of the fans in the air handling units (AHU’s) have MOLD.
This is not uncommon since the fresh air that mixes with the return air has a higher relative humidity. The elevated relative humidity in the mixing chamber provides a perfect environment for mold to colonize.
MOLD loves to grow on the dirty grease found on the fan units and on the surface of the insulation panels inside the fan unit chamber.
Wellington Environmental technicians (after lock-out tag-out) are experienced at cleaning and disinfecting the fan housing and impellers without the introduction of odors into the AHU. In addition to cleaning and disinfecting, our team can also brush and HEPA vacuum any insulation inside the AHU Chamber to remove the surface mold prior to re-starting the unit.
These safety precautions prevent the MOLD from traveling downstream so a safe environment is maintained for all the people the air handling unit serves.
