Recently we were asked to clean up after a person shot multiple people including himself in a midwestern manufacturing plant. The scene was massive in area – it included multiple offices, the parking lot and other areas of the plant. You could almost sence the horror witnesses experienced. As one of the first people on the scene after the initial police investigation – I find myself praying for all the victims and their families . Many people think professionals that witness aftermath must be numb or just so used to seeing horrible things that they block it out of their minds. Most that I speak to are prone to pray while they do their work as a way of coping.
We see all types of accidents, crime scenes, and tragedies as part of our specialized work. It is not glamorous – it is work that someone has to do and our crews have the specialized training and mental balance necessary. Often we will all gather prior to entering a building where a tragedy took place and discuss how important it is to ask God to help guide our work.
